Beverly A. Moriarty
1937 - 2024
South Hadley
Beverly Ann (Parella) Moriarty died peacefully Monday morning, November 11th.
Beverly was born September 6, 1937 and raised in Worcester, MA, the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Iola D. (Rocchio) Parella.
Beverly attended Worcester schools and then Westfield State College where she earned a bachelor's degree in education and also met her husband Edward. Marrying in 1959, she and Eddie enjoyed over 55 years of marriage until his passing in 2015. Beverly and Eddie settled in a closeknit neighborhood in South Hadley where they raised their three children alongside special neighbors with whom they shared so many laughs and life adventures through the years.
After her children started school, Beverly began her career teaching reading in the Holyoke Public Schools, where she influenced the lives of hundreds of students whom she cared deeply about. It was this segment of her career that she found most rewarding and through which she forged many lifelong friendships with fellow teachers and administrators, bonded by the many challenges and rewards the students brought them.
While working full-time and raising her three children, Beverly attended Westfield State College in the evenings to earn her master's degree. She moved on to become the Title 1 Director for the Holyoke Public Schools and was highly respected by the MA Dept of Education leaders as successfully managing one of the largest Title 1 programs in the state.
A beautiful person inside and out, Beverly loved life and had an endearing personality of sincere warmth and compassion, along with a great sense of humor. She enjoyed her long summers by her backyard pool with a good book, a Scrabble match, or the company and laughter of her many friends.
Beverly's happiest moments, however, were those spent with her family near and far, whether by visits, phone calls, facetime, or texts. The deep and unyielding love she had for and received from her children and their families was surely what fueled her happy and full life.
Pre-deceased by her husband Edward F. Moriarty, she leaves her three beloved children and spouses, Michael Moriarty and his wife Monica, Tom Moriarty and his wife Martha, and Ann (Moriarty) Miles and her husband Dennis; and her six very cherished grandchildren, Kevin Moriarty, Nathan Moriarty and Samantha (Moriarty) Durrett and her husband John, and Matthew, Brian and Laura Miles. She also leaves her dear brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Carol Parella of Worcester.
Visiting hours will be held at the O'Brien Family Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St. in So. Hadley on Friday, November 15th from 9:00-10:30am followed by Liturgy at St. Patrick's Church at 11:00am with burial in St. Rose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Kate's Kitchen, 51 Hamilton St., Holyoke, MA 01040 or Jericho, 537 Northampton St., PO Box 1039, Holyoke, MA 01040.
