Beverly Rathcke

I have only just received the sad news of Bev's illness and death. I live in England and first met Bev at Imperial College (London)in 1968. We have remained friends down all these years: meeting in Cornell, Ireland, Providence, Raleigh, England and Anne Arbor. Our last great trip together was New Mexico in Oct 2007 and we were planning a trip in Texas later this year.Losing Bev after 43 years of friendship is a shock, but I celebrate her life and treasure the memories of our times...

We were so very saddened to hear this terrible news. Beverly was an amazing teacher, friend and neighbor. I feel so lucky to have had the chance to know her and she will be greatly missed. Her amazing adventures to places around the world, her love and passion for teaching and her devotion to the thousands of graduate students she mentored are all part of a life lived to the fullest. She was brilliant as she was kind - and will never be forgotten.

I'm in utter shock and speechless. I just saw Beverly when I cut her hair just 2 or 3 weeks ago...she made no mention of being ill. What happened?
