Big Al Carson

Big Al was a legend! We loved going to see him at the Funky Pirate in NOLA. We would walk into the bar and up to the front to sit at the bench in front of the band. He had the most wonderful voice and awesome personality. This was always our first and last stop in NOLA before going home. Big Al was amazing and will be missed so much.

Big Al sang, at my husband’s surprise request, a version of happy birthday to me, like no other. What a special memory. Thank you for gifting me with such a beautiful serenade. My condolences to the family. He was such a wonderful personality and his voice would fill the Funky Pirate and spill out into the street. He will be greatly missed, as an evening hanging with him was always a part of our NOLA experience. Blessings to the family.

He was what brought me back to New Orleans for years. I dont think it will ever be the same without him. He truely was a legend, RIP Big Al.

Had the privilege of seeing Big Al perform at the Funky Pirate twice in the same week while in NOLA several years back. Great blues experience...wonderful gentleman with such a soulful spirit. God's Peace Big Al.
