Not sure what to say?

Being a Delbrook grad from the early 70,s, I recently Googled Bill Parnell and was surprised to read of his significant accomplishments as an athlete. I had no idea he was an Olympian and world record holder prior to being a phys ed teacher and coach. I was not gifted in athletics but I, like many others, was inspired by Coach to try our best, and to do it with honesty and fair play. It wasn't all about winning, although that was great. It was competing at the highest level possible,...

Its been over 10 years since Bill Parnell has passed and I was just thinking about him the other day and how much he inspired my life with positive energy. I wasnt a great student but a pretty good runner. Bill actually was in the British Empire games with my aunt Linda Adams the diver so we had something in common. I said to me that its not all about books Howard you are a driven individual and you are going to do just fine in you life. Thanks Bill for believing in me everything turned out...

I am very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I was coached by coach Parnell in 1968 and 1969, in his capacity as football, basketball and track coaches. I was impressed and encouraged by Bill’s energy, dedication and integrity.

In looking back, the two things that I remember best about Bill were his commitment to his athletes and students, and the dignity that he brought to a job that was often not easy. In an age of specialization, it is hard to believe that Bill would take on the...

I'll never forget the ear-splitting grin he wore the night Delbrook won the Shrine Bowl.. Thanks, 'Wild Bill', we'll never forget you.
Sincere sympathy to Joan and family.

Our condolences and best regards to the family

Our condolences to you Joan and your Family.
We have known Bill for about some 43 years and he was the
best neighbour anyone could have wished for. He advised us from how to get rid of chickweed to how to treat some of our common ailments. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Bill Parnell whom I always called "Coach", was a consummate educator who instilled life long lessons to all he teached about responsibility, discipline and "fair play".

To all those students who were lucky enough to be able to learn these lessons, we are better people because of his dedication to making us better students and members of the community.

"Coach" ... you are truly missed but never forgotten.

My thoughts are with you, Joan.

Sincerely,

Georgina (Aetzel) Blair

Hi Joan - I'll be sending you a personal note - you and Bill and I shared a lot of memories, but Bill and I shared the heroism of being selected for the 1948 Olympic Games as representatives for Canada! You and I shared 1950 when he was quite the hero - but to you and your family now, and from Norah too, we send our heartfelt tears as we too lost a great guy. Take care of yourself, and we will be in touch. I will not be able to attend the memorial, but my thoughts will be there. Love, Kaye
