Bill Peeples

1936 - 2024

William Max Peeples (Bill), born on May 15, 1936, in Half Moon Arkansas, passed away in his Pontotoc home surrounded by family on December 27, 2024.

After his marriage to Jean Golding on December 29, 1957, he served in the Army. When he returned from duty in Germany, they made their home in Glendale Heights, Illinois where he was a welder with Ryerson Steel. Bill and Jean moved to the Furrs Community, near Jean's homeplace in 1968 to raise their three children.

Bill worked at Triangle Distributors in Tupelo where he learned the business of building materials. This inspired him to open his own business, a dream made real when they moved to the city of Pontotoc and opened Peeples Building Materials on December 16, 1976.

After turning over the keys to his business to his son, Mike, in 1994, Bill and Jean spent time traveling-to Europe, the Panama Canal, and their favorite town of Mountain View, Arkansas. At home, he took pride in his yard, his grand and great grand-children, and his 1980 GMC pickup.

In addition to being survived by his wife, Bill leaves his legacy in his children and their families. Daughter Melinda and her husband, Ricky Simmons, have three children: Jordan and husband, Will Denius, have Matilda and Tate. Will Simmons and wife, Ashley, have Gridley. Amy and husband, Evan Goudy, have Claire Elise.

Bill's son, Mike, has two sons, Marshall and Christopher, and lives in New Albany with his wife, Jacqueline. His daughter Renée and her husband, Bill Hodges, have three children: John Harder, Samantha and Charlie Hodges.

Bill Peeples will be remembered for his integrity, work ethic, and deep love of his family.

Visitation will be at Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc on Monday, December 30, from 5:00-7:00. A private service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Renovation Fund at First Baptist Church, Pontotoc, or to the Pontotoc Historical Society for the renovation of the McMakin House.
