Dr. Bill Servais

I met Bill in Antarctica in 2001 at McMurdo Medical. Bill was an Antarctic veteran and I was a starry-eyed newbie (a FNG). He took me to the smoking bar so I could try his selection of fine cigars (horrible really). The "good" ones cost 10cents, the cheap ones only 5. He taught me to do a root canal and to pull teeth, because I thought I might want to be the over-winter doc someday and no dentist had winter duty. I worked with Barnacle Bill in Antarctica for 5 yrs and had the pleasure of of his company at least once a year since. I will miss our banter most but I will also miss his friendship. Bill was a good man and an excellent friend. If there is anything positive to take from his passing it is that he was doing something he loved when he left us. Holly and I will miss your company Bill, sail away my friend.

My condolances to family and friends. He was my dentist way back and I had the pleasure of sailing with him. I always picture him with his pipe. Bon Voyage Bill.

Thanks Bill for letting us accompany you on many of your adventures==helping us choose a 24 foot San Juan, sailing trips up into Canada, Downhill skiing, visiting you in Mexico, many Fridays helping Rod tear down the burned house, etc. The list is long. Rod & Pat Hicks
