Bill was my brother-in-law for many years, and I have many fond memories of him -- as a flower girl when he married my sister, visiting his men's shoe store, listening to blues, and sharing many holidays with our family. At 6'4 he towered over us but was a gentleman giant, always with a smile and dry wit, and incredibly blue eyes. I moved away, and many years passed before I saw him again at a wedding. I am Larry Ryan ~ Bill, Jimmy Lake and I were school mates at Jesse Jones H.S. as well as friends and co-workers, when we were kids. Jimmy graduated in 1961, Bill in '62, and I graduated in '63. We worked at the King Center Twin Drive-In Theater and Shoppers Fair (like K-Mart). Bill worked in the Shoe Department and I worked in Domestics, where we shared the same Stock Room so we saw a lot of each other. Marilyn, you not only inspired each of my 3 sons as a teacher but also it was splendid of Bill and you to provide brief part time work, great meals and some welcome income to 2 of them as youngsters. One writes: "We celebrate his [Mr. Coody´s] life and the lessons he passed to us through employment selling his New Canaan jams and jellies."
