Billy Porter, age 78, a resident of Dallas, Texas since 1972, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at his home.

Born June 29, 1931 in Bridgeport, Texas, he is the son of L. M. Porter and Anna Walker Porter. He married Joyce Dunn on October 12, 1957 in Clarendon, Texas. They moved to Dallas in 1972. Employed by Highland Park Independent School District for many years, he also worked at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home in maintenance for over 15 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the former Chapel Hill Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and 4 brothers, survivors include his wife, Joyce of Dallas; son, Mike Porter of Flower Mound; daughters, Michele and husband Larry Tweddle of Red Oak and Melissa and husband Joseph Leavitt of Carrollton; a brother, Grady Porter of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Chris Barnes, Meagan Kemp, Casey Leavitt, Michael Porter, Chris Loncaric, Alex Leavitt and Sarah Tweddle; and three great grandchildren Lennon Barnes, Brandon Loncaric and Roman Kemp.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2009 at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Perry Cemetery in Carrollton, Texas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

While I did not know Billy in person, I know that he was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather - who loved his family deeply and was much loved in return. No one could ask for a better legacy.
