Billy Ray Richey

Even if you did not know Billy, he made your life better

October 4, 1946 - September 29, 2021

Billy Richey was greeted by our Lord and Savior on September 29, 202,1 at the age of 74.  He was born on October 4, 1946, to E.J. and Irene Richey.  He was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, friend, disciple, Chain Breaker, USAF Vietnam Veteran. The best of us.

He is survived by his devoted wife Shirley of 52 years:  his son Billy Jr (Tinker) and his wife Juli; his son Clint and his wife Lisa; his faithful siblings Leon and his wife Dee, Barbara and her husband Henry, Bobby (his twin) and his wife Karen, and Gayle and his wife Jackie. Seven beautiful grandchildren, Abby, Emily, Dawson, Ethan, Harleigh, Johnathan, and Olivia; as well as his brothers-in-law, James, and Doyle; and sister-in-law Michael.

He was preceded by his older brother, Daryl, and sister-in-law, Lucille.

You may not have known Billy, but he made your life better.  He was a quiet man full of love and curiosity.  He never met a stranger and never stopped learning.  He had an easy smile and eyes that penetrated your soul.  He left an impact on everyone he met.  He was never late for anything in his life, but he granted leeway enough for those that weren't as punctual.

He had this incredibly annoying ability to quickly identify a root problem and solve it, leaving others to wonder what just happened.  He had a life-long love affair with old cars, ice cream, the open road, and stargazing.  No one, not a single soul, would want for comfort while he had a say in the matter, and that endeared him to all.  You could depend on him.  You still can.  All of these qualities have been passed on to his children and grandchildren, so his love of God, moral insight, and strength of character, will live on for a very long time.  Billy leaves us with an incredible legacy and our appreciation and love will never fade.

A graveside service will be on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet, Texas.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Shirley, Billy, Clint and Richey family, Billy lived a very full and happy life. His family is devastated now, but there will be so many memories that will enter your minds at the times you need them the most. Our family will keep all of you in our prayers. Love you.

Dear Shirley and Richey families, just a note to express our condolences for your loss! We are so sorry for all your family has endured! May Our Lord God give you the strength to take life-One Day at a Time!

My thoughts and prayers, strength, and comfort are with y’all.

My prayers are with entire family but I understand from others losing their twin it’s very hard. May you all be comforted by knowing he was a special man

What can I say about Mr Billy Richey Sr. My family lived next door to the Richey's for years in Lake Charles, LA. My Father Robert Lannerd and Billy were coworkers at ERA Aviation. He and Shirley attended my wedding and Billy Jr (Tinker) was my Best Man. I was heartbroken to hear of the news. Billy was like a 2nd Father to me and he will be missed. From my family to yours our prayers go out to all of you.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Nelva Renner Collins
