Not sure what to say?

I was just watching Nova "Life's Rocky Start" and I thought about you Bjarne. I thought I'd look you up and tell you what an inspiring teacher you are and were to me, during my years in Geology class at Service High. I'll never forget all the hikes and weekend adventures. Camping on the gravel bar in McCarthy Alaska and hiking around the Kennecott copper mine was a blast. Rest in peace my friend.

Working with Bjarne was always fun, he always had a smile on his face, always enjoying life. I will miss him.

I first met Bjarne in the 1970s when we were young geologists doing exploration work in the Alaska Range. He struck me then as a warm, genuine, and calm headed man whose enthusiasm for nature and Alaska adventure was inspiring. I last saw him in 2012, and he was the same guy. Bjarne will be missed.

Robin, Very sad to hear about Bjarne, He talked me into my first bike race in 1983. A "short" ride from Potter Marsh to Hope on a Schwinn Varsity! His encouragement got me there. His love of Geology, teaching, and cycling were such a good example to so many.

You were always a pleasure to have at the Susitna 100. RIP

You will be missed Mr. Holm! You were one of the best teachers I ever had during my time at Service. What a great person. I still remember the impact of your kindness, intelligence, and humility. God rest your soul.

Bjarne was a genuinely nice man.

After being asked by Bjarne and some of the Service High School Geology Club students, I agreed to be a chaperone on a overnight trip in southcentral AK in search of fossils. We spent the night in a snow storm, climbed a few mountains and found some amazing fossils. I will always remember that trip for the spark that it fired in me for fossil hunting, but most importantly for the time I got to spend with a patient and kind, gentle, giant - Bjarne. Life lived well Bjarne!!! You made a...

Bjarne was a great friend and colleague for many years. I particularly enjoyed his work promoting geographic literacy at UAA. He was an inspiring teacher to his students. He will be missed.
