Manning-Heffern-O’Neill Funeral Home - Pawtucket Obituary

Blanche (Deckey) Mussalli, 78, of Pawtucket, passed to eternal life on August 29, 2019. Born to Bashir and Nadeema Deckey in Central Falls, RI. Blanche was the beloved wife of Dr. Yusuf Mussalli for 49 years. Blanche is survived by her children George and his wife Sherine of Milton, MA and Sharon of New York City, NY. She was adored by her three grandchildren: Joey, Luke, and Gabriel.  She was the sister of George Deckey (Gloria) of Eastchester, NY, and the late Georgeanna Deckey.

Blanche earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bryant University, magna cum laude.  She went on to receive her MBA from University of Rhode Island and was the only woman in her graduating class.  Blanche was one of the original high school business teachers at Lincoln High School in Rhode Island, where she taught from 1963-1975.

Blanche was an active member of Saint Basil Melkite Church, Lincoln, RI, leading the Arabic choir and composing many of the Arabic hymns.  She was the founder of the St. Basil folkloric youth dance group. Blanche instilled her love of Arabic music and culture in her children and grandchildren.

Blanche founded the Religious Education program for the Diocese of Newton under the leadership of the late Archbishop Joseph Tawil.  She also taught in the Religious Education Program of the Church for a number of years. She was the Church Historian and authored articles published during major church events, notably for the 1998 dedication of the newly constructed church.

Blanche was a self-taught musician and played the oud at church functions and other local cultural events. For her years of service to the church, the Patriarchal Order of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem was conferred upon her by His Beatitude Patriarch Maximos V. Hakim.

In all these participations, she always worked voluntarily and wholeheartedly with a calm, gentle, compassionate frame of mind.  Her passing will certainly leave a great void in the Church.  She was a pillar of the Community and shared her talents with the local Eastern Churches.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, September 5th, from 5pm - 7pm at the Church of St. Basil the Great, 15 Skyview Drive, Lincoln. Her Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10am in the Church of St. Basil the Great on Friday, September 6th. Burial will be in St. Basil's Cemetery, Cumberland. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to the Church of St. Basil the Great Building Fund, 111 Cross Street, Central Falls, RI 02863 would be appreciated.

Not sure what to say?

My deepest sympathies for the family, rest in peace Blanche you will be missed ✝

Blanche was my shorthand/typing teacher at Lincoln High class of '67. She was the person most instrumental in guiding me in my career. I remember her as style and grace, smiling, always poised, and an example of good manners and good judgment. She was more than an educator - she cared deeply about her students. I loved her laugh and feel fortunate that such a wonderful person was part of my life. My deepest sympathy to her family. Truly a loss to everyone who knew her. A very special...

Please accept our condolences on the loss of your loved one.Blanche was beautiful, brilliant and beneficent. She was an exemplary woman, wife ,mother and friend to all. Blanche was ubiquitous. Whether it was spearheading a church function or shaping the religious education or leading the church choir ,one could always find Blanche at the center. I once had the honor and privilege of working with Blanche on a church related activity. At the conclusion we all broke out in spontaneous dance ....

Blanche,
My homeroom teacher back at the opening
of Lincoln High..How I teased you, just to
hear your wonderful laugh that began with a loud yelp..
To your family, my deepest sympathy..
The mention of her name, brings a big smile
and a warm feeling of love.
That is who and what Blanche Deckey is.
Dressed to the 9's and full of so much love.

Miss Deckey was my typing teacher at Lincoln High School early in her career there. She was an exemplary, kind, and caring educator, who taught me to type without looking at the keys. May God grant her eternal rest for all the achievements during her lifetime.

My deepest sympathy to George for the passing of both of his sisters, and to the rest of the family. May Blanche and Georgeanna rest in peace.

Blanche Mussalli(Miss Deckey then)was my typing teacher at Lincoln High School in 1965-66. She was one of my favorite teachers and just such a nice person. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing.

Rest In Peace Blanche. I remember Blanche from Bryant and I always knew she was a brilliant and special woman. Being Syrian myself, we connected and enjoyed talking about the Arabic traditions. I always enjoyed seeing her at St. Basil's events and the memories of college days. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
