Not sure what to say?

The six Lane kids were all either one of Bob's former classmates, or players on a team he helped coach. Or both. News of Bob's illness and passing has saddened us all, and I'm sure when we all gather on the 4th, more than one Barthel story will be told.

Bob was an example of a true brother in the faith that kept growing deeper as a Christ-follower while facing cancer. He will be missed but thank God for the memories of his life shared with us and the promise that we will see him again.

Dearest Debbie, Cole, and Codi,
I was so deeply saddened when I heard of Bob's passing. He was a unique and awesome person. Everyone laughed when they were with him. He loved you all very much and truly made a mark on this earth. I am praying for you all. Debbie, I hope you can find strength from family, friends, and God.

Dear Debbie and family,
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I worked at Bumpus until I transfered to the Freshman Center, Coach Barthel loved my peanut butter pies, he had me to make him one.
He had a great sense of humor, we'll all miss him!
sincerely,
Becky Fulmer

Debbie, Cole and Codi,
Gay and I are so sorry to hear of Bob's death. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you have God's strength during this sad time.

Our community has lost one of its greatest. You and your children will remain in our prayers throughout this difficult time.

Debbie, Cole, and Codi We all have such great memories with Bob. Especially George. I took great pleasure today at lunch when George and Kenny Meeks told such funny and heartwarming stories of growing up with Bob. Such a great man. We are much better people because we knew him. My deepest and sincere sympathy to all of you.

coach barthel was a great man at oak park middle school he was my football coach he taught us how to act like we apart of somthing greater than ourselves he taught me idividualy that things dont always go your way but the way you react thats what builds character he will be missed bye all who knew him

I was out of the state this week and was so saddened to hear of his passing. He coached my son for two years at Bumpus and they never lost a game those two years. When you can mold these young men like he has done, you truly can live forever. Our prayers are with his family.
