Obituary

Bob Suter, a member of the "Miracle On Ice" team that won the Olympic gold medal in 1980 and the father of Minnesota Wild star Ryan Suter, died Tuesday at the age of 57.

The Wild announced Suter's death and called him "a great hockey ambassador, he was a terrific person off the ice who will be greatly missed." The team did not disclose other details.

Suter is the first player from the 1980 American men's hockey team to pass away.

The Madison, Wisconsin, native was a standout defenseman in college for the Badgers and was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 1977. He never played in the NHL, though he paved the way for brother Gary Suter and son Ryan to become stars in the league.

Not sure what to say?

Always helped tremendously when ordering for our players while I was in Sioux City of the USHL. Will never forget his patience and class while running "Gold Medal Sports". It was an honor knowing Bob. God Bless Him and His Family.

Mary & Family; we were shocked and saddens ! Our Son was just at the camp, Bob made him feel special as he gave him some pointers. That is what a real man does, help's the kids !

Like any skillful athlete, Bob Suter certainly made his mark in life. He will be remembered not only for his own accomplishments but mainly for the way he impacted the lives of others. May the Suter family allow our Heavenly Father to be your refuge and your strength as you join unitedly to comfort each other during this most difficult time. (Psalm 91:2). My family offers our deepest sympathy to those Bob leaves behind.

After the 80 Olympics I stopped by his store. He was there and was very nice to me. I was able to get him to sign a stick and I still have that. A nice man and gave me a great memory.

Out thoughts and prayers are with the Suter family.

Deepest sympathies to the entire Suter family during this difficult time. Bob was an inspiration to so many. He will truly be missed.

Our prayers are and will continue to be with you. Betty and leonvansteenburgh

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
