Bob Turley

I was sorry to read of Bob's passing. Bob was my very first sports hero. He gave me my first baseball bat. His mother Helen and dad Delbert were best friends with my grandparents, Veron and Katy Moon. Bob used to cut my mom and dad's (Obbie and Mary Scharbert), and my grandparent's grass during the summers in Rosemont, IL. My dad has movies of Bob pitching his first game for the Brown's in 1951 at Sportsman Park and then movies of him pitching for the Yankees in 1959 or 1960. I even have...

TO Bob's Family: I am the daughter of Ross Elkins formerly of East St. Louis, Il. My father coached "The Undertakers". a Little League Baseball Team. in East St. Louis Ill. My dad saw Bob standing on the sidelines during try-outs and invited him to try out for the team. He recognized immediately that he had a future champion on his hands.
