Lafayette - Bobby Gene Greer, 85, of Lafayette, passed away at the Bee Hive Homes of Lafayette/Memory Care on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 3:50 a.m.
Bobby was born at home in London, Kentucky on August 1, 1936. He was the son of the late Robert C. and Edna E. (Murray) Greer. Bobby lived most of his life in Lafayette, graduating from Jackson Township High School in 1955 where he played varsity basketball . Bobby formerly worked as a delivery man for Omar Bakery in Lafayette. He later worked at Eli Lilly in Lafayette as a supervisor in environmental control for several years until his retirement. During this time he also farmed with his father-in-law, Harley W. Rust.
Bobby enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was an avid golfer, playing at the Ravines Golf Course. He was also very proud of accomplishing a hole-in-one during his golfing career. He was an avid sports fan, being a Chicago White Sox baseball fan and a Dallas Cowboys football fan. He had overseen the care of the Sugar Grove Cemetery near Jackson Heights for many years until turning over the reins to Mark Nesbitt due to his failing health. He was an active member of the River City Church in Lafayette.
On March 27, 1957, Bobby married his high school sweetheart, Rhonda L. Kellar in the Jackson Heights United Methodist Church.
Bobby leaves behind his wife, Rhonda of 64 years along with three children, Tamara Minniear, West Point; Jewl (Mel) Muela, Stockton, CA and Brian Greer, New Castle, IN; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great great-granddaughter; two brothers, George (Lois) Greer, Lafayette; Louis Greer, West Point; two sisters, Doris Pauline Phelps and Rosie (Robert) Long, both of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl “Rosie” Greer and two sisters, Janie Wirth and Willadene “Bo” Short.
As per Bobby’s request, cremation services were accorded and a memorial gravesite service will be held at a later date in the Sugar Grove Cemetery near Jackson Heights in Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
