Ruby Funeral Services & Crematories, Inc. Obituary

Bobby Dan Pointer was born on June 19, 1945 to Virginia Pointer and Robert Tatums in Hayti, Missouri. He was educated in the Chicago Public School system and Kennedy King College. He departed this life on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.

In 1965, Bobby married Barnetta M. (Simmons) Pointer and began life as a father with their children, Tina and Derrick.

In 1985, he met his soulmate and lifelong partner, Patricia (Jackson) Pointer and on August 5, 1995 they married. From that day forward, they were inseparable.

Bobby worked as a car salesman for several years, earning the trust, friendship, and respect of many repeat customers, and was a 5-Diamond certified salesman with Chrysler.

Bobby had a passion for music, especially the dusties, with his favorite group being Chicago's O'Jays. In the 1970's, he played guitar with his band, The South Side Movement, a soul and funk group from Chicago, IL. The group began as the backing band for the soul duo Simtec & Wylie. South Side Movement issued their self-titled debut album on the Wand record label in 1973; it included the Top 20 US Billboard R&B chart hit, "I' Been Watching You". Their second album, Movin' appeared in 1974, which provided another breakbeat favorite in the track "Save the World". In 1975, the group released their last album Moving South, and despite some success, The South Side Movement disbanded that year.

In his spare time, Bobby enjoyed bowling and participated in numerous leagues and tournaments. On January 27, 1998, he bowled his best game ever, earning him a 298 ring that he wore proudly. He was also an avid Chicago White Sox fan but was proud to live to see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.

After celebrating Christmas at home with the family, Bobby departed this life on Monday, December 26, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center, in Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Drisdel; his son, Aaron William Jackson, and two great-grandchildren, Elijah Beal and Toriyonna Arnold.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his loving and ever-present wife Patricia J. Pointer; his sister, Bobbie Jean Fields (Robert), of Olivette, MO; brothers Jerome Loggins (Dorothy) and Anthony Loggins (Margre), both of Florissant, MO; two additional sisters-in-law, Paulette Smith and Lillian Raiford; sons, Derrick Pointer of Chicago, IL; Henry L. Jackson, Jr. (Penny) of Chicago, IL; Sean Q. Jackson, Sr. (Marquita) of Little Rock, AR; Brian K. Jackson of Hazel Crest, IL, and Steven B. Cannon (L'Oreal) of Springfield, IL; his daughters, Tina Bland of Naperville, IL; Lorronna P. Jackson of Hazel Crest, IL; Chris Jackson (Nikkie), and Melanie Trimm (and special son-in-law, Robert), both of Springfield, IL; special grandchildren, DJ Bland, Erin Jackson, Leighann Jackson, and Paris Veal; along with 29 additional grandchildren that he loved dearly; 37 great-grandchildren, his faithful companion "Ace", his special friends Ronald Bush and Denise Von Moore and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and many, many friends.
