Luyben Dilday Mortuary Obituary

Boyd Benson Small was born in Centralia, Illinois on August 3, 1952 to Bob and Charlotte Small. The second of five boys – Mark, George, Rob and Ross – Boyd and his family moved to California in 1962. Boyd spent his formative years in Long Beach where he attended Millikan High School. There he met the woman he would later marry, and together they had two sons: Brian and Jeffrey. Boyd remained in the Orange County area where he worked in sales and enjoyed attending baseball games.

Boyd will forever be remembered for his deep devotion to family. Always one of the first to arrive at a family gathering, Boyd loved to debate movies and the latest news in sports. A huge sports fan, he rooted for the Dodgers, Angels and the Lakers. Boyd was also a classic rock fan with an extensive record collection that he proudly displayed in his living room. Some of his favorites include the Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and The Beatles.

Some of Brian’s favorite memories of his dad are times spent at baseball games. There, the two would get into long discussions about the game, and Boyd always wore the Jim Fregosi jersey that Brian had specially made for his birthday.

Jeff will always remember Body’s generosity. His Christmas presents showed the utmost care and consideration. As did every home entertainment center he meticulously wired. No amount of time was too much for Boyd to spend when it came to those he cared about.

Boyd is survived by his father, four brothers, sister-in-law PJ, two sons, daughter-in-law Kristen, and 8 nieces and nephews: Evan, Jon, Allie, Ricky, Charlie, Quinn, Sydney and Jon.

Boyd’s dry sense of humor, unique insights, generosity and commitment to his family will be forever remembered and forever missed.
