Boyd Wilson Obituary

Boyd George Wilson
Boyd Wilson, 91, of Highland was called home to heaven on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 when he passed away peacefully surrounded by family. A native of San Bernardino, Boyd was born on September 2, 1926 to Boyd and Monica Wilson. He graduated from San Bernardino High School and immediately enlisted in the Navy to serve his country during World War II as a telegraph operator. After the war, he graduated from Ashland College, Oregon with a Bachelor's of Science in Education then went on to earn a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from University of South Dakota.
While teaching at Muscoy Elementary School, he met fellow educator, Lilly Seiler and they were married in the summer of 1962. They were married for 55 years. He was a devoted and beloved father to their 4 children: daughter Laura Wilson-Martos, husband Antonio, of La Mirada, CA; son Matthew Wilson, wife Cathy of Highland, CA; son Aaron Wilson and wife Sophia of Parker, CO and son Thomas Wilson of San Bernardino, CA. He was a wonderful grandfather to Grandsons Michael, Alex, Joey, Zane and Levi, and Granddaughter Meilena.
He worked as a teacher and guidance counselor with the San Bernardino Unified School District for 37 years. He was a favorite at Golden Valley Junior High School, where he served as both teacher and guidance counselor. Students and faculty alike used to love yelling "Hey Mr. Wilson!!" a la Dennis the Menace, and Boyd would indulge in a soft chuckle at the ongoing joke. He retired from teaching in 1994.
But Boyd's community service to the local youth did not end when the school bell rang. He volunteered as a 4-H leader for the Highland Highlander's 4-H club as well as being the unofficial driver for the club for various events and county fairs throughout Southern California.
A man of faith, Boyd, along with his beloved wife, was very active in their church community. For decades they served as teachers, Eucharistic ministers and lectors at Saint Anthony Catholic Church and at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. After mass every Sunday you would often find him sharing coffee and donuts and offering words of encouragement to someone who needed bolstering, giving comfort to those in sorrow and pain, or smiling when someone shared an anecdote or personal triumph.
Boyd loved fishing, hiking and nature walks, family camping trips, rousing games of Shanghai Rummy, ice cream and peanuts and was the California Angels' biggest fan. He was a kind and gentle man with a quiet but keen sense of humor. He was a very caring and compassionate person, especially when it came to his family and friends, and will be missed by all.
Funeral Services and Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope Church (6885 Del Rosa Ave., San Bernardino, CA) on December 16, 2017 at 11:00am.
