P.G. Thomasson Funeral Services - Virginia Beach Obituary

Brenda Catanese went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2026, surrounded by loved ones and her care team at her home in Virginia Beach, VA.

Brenda was born on September 1, 1955, in Richmond, Virginia. She was born to the parents of the Hockaday family and raised by her adoptive parents Robert and Leona Edmunds. She lived her younger life in Chesapeake, Virginia. Brenda worked at various jobs including Sentara Hospital as a Nurse Aid.

She became a widow in 2018 when her husband Giancarlo Catanese of 31 years past. She is survived by her son Edward Gonse (daughter-in-law Courtney), daughter Floriana Frost (son-in-law Michael) and extended family.

Brenda loved the Lord deeply and found great joy in attending church. Her faith shaped the way she lived- always putting her family first and treating everyone she met with warmth and kindness. She had a way of making friends everywhere she went. A hardworking woman, she also enjoyed music and spending quiet moments watching her favorite old-time classic shows. Brenda loved her family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dominion Christian Center, Custom Care LLC, and PG Thomasson Funeral Services for their care and support.

Not sure what to say?

Edward and Floriana: Your mother and I became best friends as youngsters because we attended the same church. I lived in Portsmouth but your mother because she was such a sweet and lively person with no jealous bones befriended me. After finishing high school we both went to the DC area and worked.
When we both returned back to our hometowns we remained friends through our marriages and birth of our children. Your mother had great love for you and I know you will continue to live...

Lighting this candle in honor of you.
