My deepest condolences to Brent's family. I knew Brent professionally for over 30 years and our paths crossed many times. We first met early in our planning careers while I was with the Oregon State Housing Agency, and later with the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and the American Planning Association. Over the course of many regional and state committees I came to know and respect Brent's remarkable skills. And even when we took opposing positions or needled one another, I enjoyed...

I was an associate of Brent Curtis from 1979-85. During these 6-years I was fortunate to be a part of the team implementing Brent's vision for Washington County growth. Brent was never shy in challenging us not to screwed it up; typically communicated with more colorful and characteristic verbs!
Personally, Brent was a unaware-mentor to a 26-year old rookie planning associate; who's advice, professionally & personally, was often delivered through a head shake or eye roll. ...

As a quarterback, 53 years ago, he told me he would not throw the football directly to me, but to where he knew I would be went the ball arrives. Even then, he possessed vision, leadership, and trust in his friends. Now, his final pass to me is still in the air and I'm doin' my darndest to reach where he trusts I'll be!

I had the honor and pleasure of working closely with Brent for 23 tears at Washington County. He was a master of all things related to land use, a terrific leader and good friend.

I first met Brent when I was working for the City of Salem, and we were both on working group committees for the state's planning agency. This interaction continued for years under the auspices of Metro, the American Planning association, and other venues/opportunities. The Brent I knew was bright, insightful, and strong in voicing his convictions. He was a leader within the region, and he will be sorely missed.
