Altavista……….Welton Brent Dillard, age 70 of Altavista died Saturday, August 6, 2016 at his residence.
Born August 24, 1945 in Pittsylvania County he was a son of the late Welton Hayes Dillard and Mary Louise Wright Catron. He was predeceased by his step-father, Victor Catron; one brother, Gerald Catron; and three Vietnam brothers, Bill Hickman, Rick Corrick and Wayne Smith. Mr. Dillard was a member of Lambs United Methodist Church. He was an U.S. Navy Veteran of Vietnam and a member of American Legion Post 16. He was a former employee of Yeatts Transfer and Timken and was the owner of Altavista Road Service. He enjoyed going to the ocean, playing solitaire, and spending time with his dog, "Lady."
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Darnell Dillard of the residence; two daughters, Melissa Worley and husband, Lester and Denise Tawous and husband, Don; one son, Dakota Dillard and wife, Macaela; one brother, Lloyd Catron and wife, Annette; two sisters, Lorraine Callahan and husband, Jimmie and Becky Clay and husband, Danny; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and six Vietnam Brothers, Bob Shank, Johnny Jones, Jack Barwick, Tom Doan, Ken Tharpe and Bill Lindloft.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Lambs United Methodist Church by Rev. Marci Huntsman and Rev. Carlton Gunter. Burial with Military Honors by American Legion Post 16 Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2016 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
The family would like to give a special thank you to his caregiver, Lisa Daniel and to Centra Hospice.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Altavista EMS, P.O. Box 1, Altavista, VA 24517, to the American Legion Post 16, 1301 Greenview Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502 or to the Altavista Adult Group Home Activity Fund, 101 Avoca Lane, Altavista, VA 24517.
