Brett, I never got to formally meet you. And I’m so sad about that. Your memory is kept alive and vibrant in the many stories my husband, and your longtime childhood friend, Kelly, has shared with me. The mention of your name brings a smile to his face and tears to his eyes. He lights up talking about how wild y’all used to be. He was so excited to get to reconnect with you. I was happy he was so happy. I was happy you both were enjoying life and planning on sharing new moments, as new men, with one another. So the news of your passing sincerely crushed him. There are so many things he wants to say to you, so many things he wanted for the both of you. And I just wanted to say, your impact on him is indelible. He loves you. And I love you. My heart aches for the time we never got to have. For your fiancé. For your parents. For everyone who knew you. May your soul Rest In Peace. May we meet in Heaven and laugh at it all, and share so much beauty for all these ashes. Godspeed.

This week I dreamt I was in your backyard with your family. In the dream a decision befell me. Keep my integrity or give it up for some benefit? I decided on righteousness, and the universe showered me with riches. Put in a good word for me brother. Life is complex, challenging asst times, rewarding at times. 4 years later a lot us still think and care about you. I pray for Spring and John that even though some wounds never heal, that maybe they can smile knowing there's a chance we all meet again. Until then, I'm working hard for the both of us BK

I would like to send my deepest condolences to you and your family. I was shocked to hear of this news as I was out of town at the time of the tragedy. I will pray for you and your family to find peace and acceptance. Brett was a regular customer at my little bait shop and a friend, he had many friends here in the Pensacola area; a truly genuine and nice young man. I will miss him, his stories and seeing the pictures of his fishing trips. We were able to share a lot of familiar things since I am originally for N.O.. May the Lord walk with you in this time of mourning. He will be remembered in the fondest of ways.
