Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory - Shelby Obituary

Brett Leighton Simmons, age 55, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at his home in Dallas, North Carolina.  Born on January 6, 1969, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of Mr. Roger Simmons & Mrs. Janet Toliver Simmons of Taylors, South Carolina.  Brett graduated from Eastside High School in Taylors, SC.  He later attended the University of South Carolina, graduating in 1991, with a Bachelor of Media Arts.  He soon put his education to good use, becoming an associate producer for Nascar and Fox Sports for over twenty years. He was a conscientious worker who loved his job and especially his coworkers.  He was an amazing son, who always went above and beyond to make sure his parents were cared for and supported.  His absence will be felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Brett was preceded in death by his infant brother.  He is survived by his loving parents Jan and Roger Simmons, countless aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as his many friends and colleagues at Fox Sports and the Nascar family.  Brett’s adventurous spirit touched many lives throughout his life and career.  He was truly a gift to all who knew him.

A celebration of Brett’s life will take place at Praise Cathedral chapel which is located across from Praise Cathedral church at 3355 Brushy Creek Road Greer, SC 29650 on February 11th at 2:00.

Not sure what to say?

Dearest Jan and Rog, We have lost a lot more since Brett, and younger than him too. Ny husband's dear friend s/and colleagues Steve and Levi were a huge part of our property and community......then not 4wks ago Levi 28yrs, didn't wake up with his fiancée by his side. Sometimes it's overwhelming to accept he's gone. What I do know is literally all I read in the news, select on FB, and do a general YouTube Search and choose TV to watch. Every time NC or SC comes up. I'd love to think Brett's...

Many memories working at WSPA with Brett. RIP

Single Memorial Tree

What an amazing talent... and an amazing friend. We will never forget his hardy laugh or spirited pep talks to keep us moving thru the daily challenges in the broadcast sports TV business. He was very down to earth, and always so positive. And he was a hard worker. FOX Sports benefitted greatly from his contributions to our NASCAR programs. Brett will be sorely missed by all of us in post production in Charlotte. Rest in Peace my good man.

With Love & Prayers Aunt Jan & Uncle Rog

Goodness is eternal. Like a pebble dropped in water, goodness sends ripples outward to people and places far beyond our horizons. We cannot know what effect a person’s goodness has had on others, but we know its effect on us.
These are the memories we hold in hearts forever.
Rest in Peace Dear Brett
