Brian Matthew Barney, age 41, of Portsmouth, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2020. He was born March 27, 1979 in Athens, Ohio to Earl Edward Barney and Christy Lynn McComas Barney.  Brian was a history buff who enjoyed many things in life, including all sports, especially playing basketball and rooting for The Ohio State Buckeyes and Oakland Raiders; reading, listening to music, watching late night movies, going on country drives, and he loved to listen to his Dad preach the Word.  He is survived by his parents, Pastor Ed and Chris Barney of Langsville; fiancé, Tawny Lyons of Portsmouth; children, Ian Reffett, Gavin Potts and Keylei Bowman; brother, Brent Barney (Deanna) of Wellston; sister, Erin Rockhold (Tony) of Reedsville; grandmother, Ora Barney of Wilkesville; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl C. Barney, Clyde McComas and Betty McComas.  Calling hours will be Saturday from 12 to 2 P.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 2 P.M. with Pastor Rich Bishop officiating.  For those attending, we ask that you follow the Ohio Department of Health's guidelines for social distancing during this time.  For those who wish to be there in spirit, Brian's funeral service will be live-streamed on the McWilliams Funeral Home Facebook page starting at 2 P.M. on Saturday.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
