Brian Dooley

My condolences to his family. I just today found a box of letters from him circa 1992-93. We met over the VAX when I was an undergrad and had a lot of late-night chats that way before switching to letters - nearly two dozen in an old shoebox inside another box that hasn't been opened in more than 20 years. He was a good man-- smart, funny, generous, and kind. It's odd that I was telling someone about him about a month ago - my first Internet friend. Rest well, friend.

I was very sad to hear of Huck's passing. I worked with Huck for many years as a vendor on the overnight shift and enjoyed our chats about hockey and various other things. He would tell me stories about him refereeing hockey games, and the usual spectator abuse that is normally directed at the ref. But after the game was done, he would let his long hair down and walk past the same people, who had no clue he was the guy they were yelling at 15 minutes earlier. I changed positions and Huck...

1st and foremost, my sincerest condolences to the Dooley family. I was devastated when I heard of this tremendous loss. Though, I didn't personally meet Huck and wished I had, I had a GREAT rapport with him. He'd worked for APEX which is a client that I currently still support & have to say that I miss him dearly. Huck was very understanding of processing, especially when things were delayed and out of my control. I couldn't ask for a better client. I considered Huck more as a friend...

This is Huck Dooley at Cafe Brazil in Deep Ellum, circa 2004. He was a breakfast counter regular, often biking over after his night job in tech operations. They loved his Tie-dye so much they hung up some of his work (as shown) behind the counter.

Just did a people search to reach out over a misunderstanding several years ago, to wish Huck a happy birthday. Devastated that we missed several years of friendship and that he is gone. Nobody like him. I can still hear his little laughs that came with a twinkle in his eye and a bright smile, and the way he would swing his arms when he was overjoyed and couldn't stand still. Such a smart man, a good dancer, and one of the most sensible rebels ever to be self+determined. Deeply missed.
