Brian Eric Thomas Mayer, age 60, passed away on November 27, 2023, in Clarks Summit, where he lived for the last 39 years.
Born on January 27, 1963 in Scranton, he was the son of Rita M. Magdzak Mayer of Throop and the late Thomas C. Mayer.
He was a student at Nativity of Our Lord for eight years, then attended Scranton Prep in his freshman year, where he received a schoolwide achievement award. Brian became ill while in his freshman year and continued his education at Lakeland with four years of homebound learning by a dedicated home instruction teacher, the late Miss Bavin. He graduated from Lakeland in 1982.
Brian loved the San Francisco 49ers from the age of 8, Joe Montana having been his favorite player. He was a big fan of NFL or any sport, loved playing cards, collecting sports cards and coins, trivia, and playing miniature golf. His favorite golfer was Tiger Woods. He enjoyed listening to music, rides to various places, and loved anything with numbers. He was a whiz at math, circle-a-word books, and enjoyed woodworking and collecting Sporting News newspapers.
He loved his family with his whole heart and was loved in return by them. He enjoyed visits with them, his godmother, and with a devoted childhood friend, Michael Lynch. He made many friends in Clarks Summit who cared for Brian and they were so appreciated by his family. Reverend Shambora, Clarks Summit, provided religious meaning to Brian's life and his mother and family are appreciative. Brian was also an organ donor through Gift of Life.
Brian is survived by two brothers, Brendan Mayer and Thomas C. Mayer, Jr.; a sister, Sharon Heppler and her husband Richard; his aunt and godmother, Joan Seland; an uncle, Donald Magdzak; three cousins, Jennifer, Bonnie, and Cheryl; many great cousins; three great-great cousins; and several extended members of the Brennan and Mayer families.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Adam and Anna Magdzak and Otto and Ethel Mayer; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives on maternal and paternal side.
Private arrangements have been entrusted to Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit.
