Brian Olson

Brian was a great friend and a great colleague. When I first started teaching at KVCC, Brian was one of my mentors. He knew the ways of Valley and the ways of the English Department. He knew how to encourage students while correcting their errors. I do not know if he was a "natural teacher," but he made teaching look easy. I will miss our conversations about books and music and teaching tips. I will miss hearing about his pride in and his love for his family. I will miss his sense of humor,...

Brian had a huge influence on me. As my teacher (and later my boss) he encouraged my creative writing so much, more than anyone had before. He also hired me as a tutor and with his praise, I changed my degree to English education. (He also was nice enough to let my kids hang out with me when I was working). I´ve been teaching and writing almost every single day since I had his class about 30 years ago). It´s amazing how much encouragement can help another person. Thank you Brian.
