Never Forgotten; RIP Rucker classmate; Guard buddies pinned on our wings together

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Brian D. Slavenas US Army 1st Lieutenant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by...

This is the first time I have been able to write anything about Brian or any of the others lost that day. I served with Brian in Set. 1 Co. F 106th Avn. while we were in Iraq. He is one of the finest officers I ever served with. He would always take time to chat and even ask you to show him what you were doing while you worked. He liked to know who his troops were and what their duties were. I am sorry for your loss and will always remember him.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

"Ode of Remembrance" taken from Laurence Binyon's poem "For the Fallen" 1914

This photo was taken the day of graduation

It was an honor to know Brian, I believe we sat next to each other the day we received our wings (Class 02-02 ‘double-deuce’) That we were both ‘Guard-Guys’ is what we had in common, I was in the Delaware Guard at the time. To his family and anyone this may inspire, Brian’s memory lives…as his classmate/teammate, we will complete the mission. CPT David Walton, AV
