Brian was a fellow platoon commander I worked with in Afghanistan in 2012. He was fearless and rugged. I enjoyed the conversations between engagements we had with insurgents. My prayers are with your family.

Captain Vandenberg lived up to the motto of "No better friend, No worse enemy than a U.S. Marine".
He volunteered to go to Afghanistan a 2nd time so he could use his experience to lead Marines in combat. He did just that and he was respected by his subordinates, peers and seniors alike.
There are men still alive today directly due to his leadership
