BRIDGET MURRAY

1924 - 2020

MURRAY--Bridget. Bridget Murray, age 95, of New City passed into eternity on August 27, 2020. Bridget was born on September 9, 1924 to Bridget (nee Murphy) and Henry Collier. Bridget was raised in Corofin, Galway. She arrived in New York City in 1938. Bridget married James P. Murray on September 24, 1943. Over the next few years Bridget and her husband James lived on several military bases where he was posted. The couple then settled down in the Inwood section of northern Manhattan where they raised a family of nine children. She moved to Riverdale in the Bronx in 1978 and then to New City in 1999. Bridget worked as a telephone operator for over thirty years and was a proud member of the CWA Union until she retired in 1985. She loved Irish music and the home was full of song and dance. When family or friends asked how she was doing she would invariably answer, "I am full of fun and mad for more." Bridget always had a smile on her face and never a cross word for anyone. She asked that people remember her with a smile or a laugh. She did not want to be remembered in sadness. Bridget was predeceased by her husband James Patrick, her son James (Pilar), and her brothers William, Henry, Norman, and Eric. Bridget is survived by her sister Irene Hardman of Melling, England, and her children, Bridget, Kevin (Patsy), Thomas (Kathleen), Maureen, Eileen, Paul (Grace), Donna (Joseph), and Patrick (Melissa). She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Visitation and Celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main Street, New City, from 2pm to 6pm. A joyous Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 10am at St. Francis Church in West Nyack. Bridget's earthly remains will be interred next to those of her beloved husband, James Patrick, in Long Island National Cemetery at Pinelawn, Farmingdale, NY.
