Brittany Gill Obituary

Brittany Lynn (Sasser) Gill

January 18, 1984 - September 28, 2014

The Original "Everyday Warrior"

Surrounded by loved ones, Brittany passed away Sunday September 28th, 2014. She was 30 years old. Over the last 10 months Brittany battled cancer in true "Everyday Warrior" fashion; never feeling sorry for herself and never losing sight of what was most important to her; family, friends and helping others.

Brittany was born in Portland and moved to Salem at a young age. She attended Sprague High School and went on to graduate from the University of Oregon and later received her MBA from Marylhurst University.

Brittany married Salem native and fellow Sprague High School alum Matthew Gill in 2007. Brittany loved her husband more than written words can convey. She was extremely proud of the fact that Matt chose to become a Salem Police Officer and serve the community they grew up in and loved. The birth of their son Liam in 2012 gave Brittany and Matt happiness and bliss one can hardly imagine. Brittany's love for Liam was deep and powerful and will never fade despite her early departure from this life.

The CrossFit community was Brittany's other family. She was a regular at Salem CrossFit where despite going through various cancer treatments she continued to compete at a very high level. Something that stands out to many was a Facebook post from Brittany after enduring 2 months of treatment, "Up until today I thought I wasn't as strong as I was before chemo. Now I know I'm stronger. 197# clean, #1 PR!!" She was and always will be a true warrior.

After her diagnosis, inspired by her friends throughout the CrossFit community, Brittany started a non-profit organization called Everyday Warrior (www.everyday-warrior.org). Brittany served as President and Founder of the organization with the primary mission to financially support, inspire and empower individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and are currently undergoing treatment. This organization will live on and grow far beyond the life of any individual.

Brittany is survived by her husband Matt and son Liam, parents Monty and Debbie Sasser, brother Lance Sasser and his wife Sarah, grandmother Marion "Grams" Sasser, mother in-law and father in-law Mary and Brian Bliss, father in-law and mother in-law Bill and Teri Gill, sister in-law Jessy Gill, a niece and nephew and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

All are welcome to attend a memorial service at Church on the Hill in Turner, OR on Friday October 3rd at 5p.m.

In lieu of flowers, and in true Brittany Gill style, hit a personal record (#PR) this week, and as always donations to Everyday Warrior are welcome (www.everyday-warrior.org). Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
