I'm so sorry to hear about my second cousin's passing yesterday. I relayed the news to my father Jack Stafford, he also sends his condolences.

Broadus was a gentleman in every essence of the word, and the good Lord broke the mold when he made him. My family and I loved him very much, and will miss him.

I feel very fortunate to count myself among the 200+ law clerks that Broadus mentored during his career. I was also lucky, later in life, to try a case with him. He was the quintessential "happy warrior" -- he fought like hell for his clients, but he always did it with a smile on his face. He taught me a lot and I will miss him.

I have very fond memories of Mr. Spivey when I was growing up. My father always held such a respect for him. So did I. He was a legend in many ways but what I remember most is how he always made those around him smile. He always had a kind word or a funny joke to share. The last time I had the privilege of spending time with Mr. Spivey was a long time ago, but he definitely made an impact. He was a truly gifted individual and it is a great loss to the law community of Texas. My thoughts are...

I first met Broadus in 1984 and consider myself very fortunate to have been one of his 200 clerks. He was a mentor and a friend and was a shining example to me of how to treat people.
I was visiting the National Cathedral in Washington, DC in 1985 and stone block in one of the walls in which was carved the following:
Kindness was his creed
Charity was his religion,and
Justice was his most eagerly sought objective.
I have no idea who they were talking about, but I...

I first met Broadus through his son Danny, in 1967 or 68. We were driving to eat at Little Italy in Lubbock. He attempted to explain stocks to us by using the example of a "mini bike company" since he knew Danny and I were interested in mini bikes. The teaching about stocks quickly devolved into our interest in starting a mini bike company. We never did that, but Danny and I did get mini bikes.
In 1983 I clerked for him and more recently I had the pleasure of working with...

BA-
If you see Bob Huff around will you ask him what he wanted that ball of yarn for at that trial in Lubbock?
He was one of a kind.

Wow- One of 200 law clerks (one of a very few publicly identified Republicans). Sometime janitor for office. 1 time Client. Co-Counsel and occassional opposing counsel. He was a mentor thru all of it. Many lessons learned from this West Texas giant. What a life well lived. We will miss you here.
