Brown Overcash Obituary
CHINA GROVE - Brown Davis Overcash, Sr., 97, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at the North Carolina Veteran's Home.
Brown was born May 21, 1917 in China Grove to the late Luther McCamey and Mary Davis Overcash. He was married for 74 years to Gertrude Elizabeth Lomax Overcash who preceded him in death in 2011.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served during World War II in France and Italy and was missing in action for a time after being wounded in the field. Brown retired from the VA Medical Center in 1982, where he worked as an admitting attendant for the hospital. He was a lifelong member of Lutheran Chapel Church.
Following Gertrude's death, Brown attended Trinity Living Center adult day care where he made many new friends who cared for him and brightened his days. He also discovered a love for dancing and enjoyed attending dances at the Salisbury YMCA and Cabarrus Senior Center. He enjoyed spending warm days on the pontoon at Lake Norman and napping with his canine buddy, Elvis.
Brown is survived by his son, Brown Davis "Davey" Overcash, Jr. and wife Ketti Weaver Overcash (China Grove); granddaughter, Ivy Elizabeth Overcash (Atlanta, GA); sisters Doris Overcash Freeze and Mary Frances "Frankie" Overcash Echerd (China Grove); many nieces, nephews and other extended family; and his special friend, Ruth Hall (Faith).
The family wishes to thank the staff at Trinity Living Center and the N.C. State Veterans Nursing Home for the excellent care and kindnesses extended.
Services:Private family visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home followed by entombment at the West Lawn masoleum. Public services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan.11, 2015 at Lutheran Chapel Church, Eudy Street, China Grove, followed by visitation with family and friends.
Memorials:In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Living Center, PO Box 947, Salisbury, NC 28145-0947 or the charity of the giver's choice.
