Russon Brothers Mortuary - Bountiful Obituary

Bruce was born in Wayland, Stueben County, New York to Juaneita Louse McGrady Benedict and Edward Arthur Benedict, who have preceded him in death as did his older brother, Edward Richard Benedict.

He and his family were baptized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints after two missionaries, Elder Bruce R. McConkie and Elder Richard Smith, who were driving along a country road and noticed a house standing alone and were impressed to stop there. Bruce was eleven years old when he was baptized and has been a faithful member of the Church since.

He served faithfully as a missionary in Ireland from 1947 to 1949, as a bishop, as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple, and as a sealer in the Bountiful Temple. In 1991 he served a two and a half year Church Service Mission as an assistant to the church project engineer until the Bountiful Temple was dedicated. He then served seventeen years in the Bountiful Temple as an ordinance worker and a sealer.

He graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He joined the Navy after graduation and served his country during World War II. He departed for his mission to Ireland shortly after being released from the Navy. He later worked at Kennecott Copper until he retired.

He married Phyllis Brenner on October 3, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and his children; Alana, Paul (Amy), David (Jennifer), Kathleen, Stephen (Tami), and Peter (Michelle), 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Bountiful 28th Ward Chapel at Noon. Prior to the services, a viewing will be held from 10:45 am to 11:45am in the Relief Society Room. The chapel is located at 2285 South 200 West, Bountiful UT. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com.

Many thanks to the staff at Avalon and Bristol Hospice for the care and comfort given to him.
