Bruce Breimer Obituary

BREIMER--Bruce John, age 79, of Manhattan, passed away on October 18, 2025 at Calvary Hospital after years- long illnesses. Known as "Boss," Bruce was an alumnus of Collegiate School in Manhattan, where he served as a renowned and esteemed college guidance counsellor, history teacher, trustee, varsity baseball coach and treasured mentor to more than a thousand young men. During the last two years of his 37-year tenure, he proudly accepted the position of Principal. Bruce graduated from Yale University in 1967, where he was the sports editor of the Yale Daily News, and began his teaching career at Brooklyn Friends School before returning to his alma mater. Bruce was an opera and theater buff, a political and newspaper junkie, an avid Red Sox fan, a latecomer to the joys of having a cat, and spent many of his happiest days in Castine, Maine. He was enriched by his lifelong friendships with fellow "Dutchmen" David Sicher and Michael Batcheller. Bruce was the son of Anne and Dr. Charles W. Breimer and is survived by his beloved wife, Lorna Doran, dear brother, Stephen F. Breimer, and many cherished friends. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, between 5pm and 8pm at Frank E. Campbell - The Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Avenue, New York, New York (at 81st Street). A Memorial Service will be held at Collegiate School in the upcoming months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Collegiate School for a fund to be established in Bruce's honor and memory.
