Not sure what to say?

Bruce added so much to the world. I still think of the time we had in Mexico and all I learned. Thinking of family on this day.

Porfesor Byland was among the academic people who care showed symphaty toward the unforgettable people such as the Mixtec people in Oaxaca. He devoted a lot times to understand the mixtec Civilization. He was expert in Mixtecs Codices particularly, in codices Borgia. Sorry for see him leave us. he will always be remember through his fine works!

I have such fond memories of Bruce from our first field season in Oaxaca in 1985 and again in 1987. I was just thinking of him today and decided to google him. What a shock! I will always remember him squatting on the concrete floor sorting ceramics - always enthusiastic - always an inspiration! You will be remembered always!

On my entry of the 9th I was not aware of Bruces passing-I am so very sorry for your loss. He was a great friend to me in the 1976 Loudon dig. I have only the best memories of this wonderful man.
nothing I can say can take away the grief that I know you must feel-but in time only the love will remain.

I am glad to see you are still in archaeology / anthropology. I was with you on the Fort Louden dig with Dr. K. Kuttruff. Remember the Bluegrass Club we all went to hear the music in Marryville? I am no longer the wild maniac I was in those now ancient days-I am currently an administrator at the Tennessee school for the Blind. strange what time will do is it not-I still talk to Bob Jolley-i would love to see everyone from the Fort Loudon dig. Take care and I wish you the best. Hank L. Hewgley

He wrote a recommendation letter that helped get me into Grad school as my other Professors at Lehman plum forgot to do so. I was told upon my acceptance that it was his words that worked in my favor as he gave a steller report of me. He was amazing! I saw him at the Gug. during the Mezo-Am. exhibt. He remembered me after X amount of years not seeing him. I heard of his passing through a friend, needless to say I was devasted. It was an honor to be taught by him, to read his books and to...

This man changed my life...He introduced me to Anthropology, and to a whole different way of thinking, or approaching things...I miss him terribly...

Professor Byland was one of my first professors at Lehman and was the best. He was passionate about Anthropology and it showed in his lectures despite his poor health. My condolences to his family and friends.

What can I say-Professor Byland was an incredible human being. I took one class with him and learned so much. He truly loved what he taught. I feel grateful that I had him as a Professor.
