Not sure what to say?

Ecker Family,

My daughter had Bruce at Bethany Elemenatary and that single year was perhaps the most formative and inspirational in her education to date. He was able to transcend the basic requirements of the classroom and reach every kid. His capacity to inspire, expand, and care for each student was borne of Agape...a love of God and humans that radiated from every corner of his life. His is missed but is still an example to this day!

I am remembering Bruce today and thankful he is part of my happy memories of our trip to Europe. Thoughts to Bev ox

I was sad to hear Bruce had passed away. We had the opportunity to share a trip to Europe in 2014 with Bruce and Bev. I was just looking at pictures of him trying on Venetian masks while at a demonstration on how the masks were made. Such a subtle sense of humour too. A very smart man but never had to display that - we knew! I'm glad I met him.

Dear Mrs. Ecker,

I just learned today that Bruce passed away. I worked with him at Raleigh Park School in the mid to late 90's. He was a fantastic and gifted teacher and always so helpful to us rookie teachers. My heart goes out to you and your family. I am so sorry.

Mrs. Ecker, When you are talking with Bruce this weekend, Emilia and Cooper wanted to let him know that they got into Rachel Carson. Emilia also wanted to let him know that she is beating both Cooper and Nick in CanDo dollars this year!

Bev and family - - - I worked with Bruce many years ago at Raleigh Park and wanted you to know that I never forgot him. He was always so easy to speak with and always with a quick wit and smile. I consider myself lucky to have worked even a little while with him.

Mr. Ecker was my 4th grade teacher 12 years ago, and a better man than words can say. I remember him teaching us 3D drawing and helping me work on my cursive, and I remember his mustache quite clearly. However, the most important thing I remember of him is how he made me and so many others feel; both gifted and awkwardly unfeminine, Mr. Ecker made me feel truly as though it wasn't a fault in me to be an individual, and reinforced in word and action that wonder at the world and all its mad...

I was also in Mr Ecker's 3rd grade class at William Walker 15 years ago.

There were many things I remember about Mr. Ecker, and one is I have him to thank for my love of reading. Mr. Ecker would have us read silently every day (DEAR time! I still remember that big Koala...), and that is when I really started to love to read. I am so thankful to Mr. Ecker for that.

During that time, my father was also diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Mr. Ecker was genuinely concerned...

We have shared so many conversations and ideas, with so many shared times and experiences as family. We spent college and dating years together in California, with more time and small children in Oregon, and that tight knit house church in Beaverton, vacations and spending times together with all the cousins, so many wonderful memories. We love you and will miss Bruce. You were truly a friend and brother.
