Celebration of Life Service for Bruce Hammer is set for Saturday, October 5 at 4 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, Terry Smith, officiating minister. Family and Friends Gathering will be from 3 p.m. until service time. Family burial will be at Huntsville Memory Garden, Madison, Ala.
Bruce died September 30, 2024, at his residence. He was born December 21, 1940, to Wesley Farson Hammer and Anne Nowak Hammer in Milwaukee, Wis. Bruce moved to Huntsville, Ala. at age 14 where he met the "girl next door", Barbara Jones and they were married in 1961.
They have two sons, Mike (Debra) and Mark (Laurie). Five grandchildren followed, Ashley Sanchez (Danny), Wesley Hammer (Cassidy), Hannah Hammer (Lauren), Daniel Hammer (Jesse), and Paul Hammer (Vittoria). Two bonus grandchildren Zander White and Noelle Spell (Brandon). His great-grandchildren are Asa Billingsley, Leo, and Lillie Sanchez, Kennedy and Riley Spell, and Olivia and Macey Hammer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Dawn, Diane, and Sharon.
Bruce was an avid sportsman including football at Vanderbilt, bowling, tennis, ping pong, long distance running and his favorite, bass fishing. After 4 years in the US Air Force, as a ground equipment repairman, he obtained a degree in electronic engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Most of his career was spent at ITT in Corinth. He was a member of the Church of Christ with special affiliation with Foote Street, Clear Creek, and Strickland. He did mission work in England, Russia and Nigeria.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Page, Kimble Bolen, Tom Sharp, Raymond Glendenning and Duane Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to your charity of choice or to Christ Call in Africa, c/o Strickland Church of Christ. PO Box 120, Glen, MS, 38846. These monies will go into the building fund for the Bruce & Barbara Hammer School of Biblical Studies in Uganda.

Sorry to hear of the passing of your loved one. Bruce will be remembered for his love of spiritual things. His spiritual desires motivated him to participate in missionary work in other countries.
Rest assured that Bruce love for people will be remembered by our Heavenly Father. May his legacy be forever etched in your heart.

Bruce was in Russia with a group going house to house and after a number of rude receptions Bruce said "wait a minute, let´s stop and pray that God will open a door for us", and at the very next house a man signed up for a Bible study. Bruce trusted and believed in the power of prayer.
