I was fortunate to have met Charlie in 1973 when I joined the Jackson PD. He was one of those guys who welcomed those of us who had been cops elsewhere. I got hurt on the job after only about 5 months and spent 2 weeks in Kimball Hospital. There wasn't a day that went by that Charlie didn't come to my bedside and spend time with me; he even passed the hat to help out my family when our bills mounted.
