Buford Phillips Obituary
Mr. Phillips was born in Cleveland, Tenn. He graduated from Howard College, now Samford University, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in India during World War II, coming home to a lifetime of service to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mr. Phillips served as chaplain for Baptist Memorial Hospital. During his lifetime as a Southern Baptist minister, Mr. Phillips worked in missions to establish new churches in the South and along the West coast. He served Gadsden Regional Medical Center Hospice as chaplain for 20 years. He was a member of the Alabama Baptist Chaplain Association. Mr. Phillips served as an associate pastor and taught Sunday School as a faithful member of MeadowBrook Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Phillips, Rainbow City; daughters, Joy Carmack, San Diego, Calif., and Susan (Dale) Pigg, Fenton, Mo.; sons, Larry (Alice) Phillips, Rainbow City, and Peter Phillips; sister, Lois Pruitt, Gadsden; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at MeadowBrook Baptist Church.
