I had the honor of first meeting Burgess while volunteering with the Grand River Indian Artists Gathering. Listening to him talk of the meaning of and traditions that inspired his artwork was a deeply moving experience and I have followed his career since. My sincere condolences to Rebecca and all of his family.

My deepest condolences go to Burgess 's family. I met him a long time ago when I was 13 and we volunteered for the Humane Society for Bingo. He was an amazing artist and my family has some of his art work. He always made me laugh and have a smile. He loved to joke and boy was he hilarious. Now he's an angel. R.i.P. Burgess
