Byron K. “Jakie” Deese passed away at the age of 88, Wednesday, February 11, 2004, in Heber Springs after a brief illness. He was born to Grover C. and Belle Deese on September 12, 1915, at Wattensaw, Lonoke County, Arkansas. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Barataria in the South Pacific. He was a long time resident of North Little Rock and Austin, Arkansas and was currently residing in Heber Springs. He is survived by his daughters, Ann Sneed of Quitman, Arkansas, Kathy Munnerlyn of Seagoville, Texas and Carolyn Hurtt of Garland, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Emelie Deese of Mablevale, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and his nephew, Don White of England, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Faye McCall Deese; his son, Glynn “Corky” Deese; his grandson, Greg Sneed; his sister, Virginia White and his niece, Maxie Hughes.

Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, Arkansas, with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2004, at Westbrook Funeral Home, with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Austin, Arkansas. Papaw~ I will always treasure all the great memories..know that you are loved & missed..

I am thinking of your family in your time of sorrow, I feel fortunate to have known such a great man and know that he was loved by all that knew him. But as we all look at Jake, know that a part of him lives on forever.
