BUTTS, Mr. C. Glasgow "Gig," age 95, of South Hill, died Saturday May 26, 2012 at Pineview Rest Home. He was the son of the late James Alfred Butts Sr. and Nellie Glasgow Butts. Mr. Butts was the retired senior partner of Butts & Butts Attorneys, of South Hill, a graduate of South Hill High School, a graduate of Wake Forest College and Wake Forest School of Law and was the oldest surviving member of the Wake Forest Golf Team. He was the mayor of South Hill from 1949 until 1955, the town attorney of South Hill for many years and member of the Zoning Board of Appeals. He was former legal counsel for Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative, a charter member and instrumental in the formation of the South Hill Country Club, a member and past master of South Hill Masonic Lodge # 297 AF & AM, member of South Hill Shrine Club, member of ACCA Shrine Temple of Richmond and The Scottish Rite of Danville, a member American Legion Post #79 and a retired U. S. Army Captain, serving stateside in World War II. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, deacon, trustee and member of the church choir. Mr. Butts is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Chapman "Penny" Butts; a son, Charles G. Butts Jr. and wife, Ann Reamy Butts, of South Hill; a daughter, Anne Butts Taylor and husband, Charles M. "Chuck" Taylor, of Hanover County; four grandchildren, Kelsey E. Taylor, Zachary G. Taylor and Charles M. "Chip" Taylor, all of Hanover County, and Remy W. Butts, of South Hill. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Butts Harmon, Cora Lou Butts Wynne and Nellie A. Butts; and a brother, James Alfred Butts Jr. A funeral service will be conducted Monday at
2 p.m. in First Baptist Church with interment in Oakwood Cemetery with American Legion Military Honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home and Crematory.
