Not sure what to say?

CM was my Mom's (Dianne Richardson) boyfriend in high school, and I have a few pictures of the two of them together. She was a good friend of his first wife, Evelyn, in high school, too. She always had such kind words to say about CM. Sending condolences for the entire family as you sort through the beautiful memories that you shared. RIP CM Newton

Years ago, as a Social Worker with the elderly, I told Coach Newton about a dear
black lady in my caseload who had been blind most of her life and never missed hearing Alabama's basketball games on radio. He quickly asked her name and room number since I told him she was currently in the hospital.

Good times

I attended the funeral yesterday, Coaches, Players Administrators and friends were well represented. The thing that will always standout in my mind as I would describe him as "the Gentleman" of basketball. Condolences to his family. He will be missed.

79/80 Highlights

79/80 Alabama team

Coach Newton was a great Coach but truthfully he was just a good and descent man who went out of his way to help people as well, even for a walkon at Alabama like me. I could always crack a good joke with him and get him to laugh, that was one reason I always liked him as a Coach. Coach Newton was just a good down to earth person and Coach. He influenced so many people at Alabama, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. I think everyone who knew him got to see this side of him and that is what I will remember.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. C.M. was a great leader and coach that will greatly be missed.

Coach Newton, my wife Lynn Hall and her sisters Kim and Toni grew up in your neighborhood in Tuscaloosa, AL years ago. I taught at several Universities and can attest that you had such a positive tremendous influence on all collegiate athletes. Your presence will be missed for a long time. Thank you for such positive contributions to NCAA sports.

Our thoughts and prayers are extended to your family. God bless you always.
