Caesar S. Lebuis Oct. 3, 1926 - Jan. 19, 2015 PRESTON - Caesar S. Lebuis, of 21 Maynard Hill Rd., passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 at the William W. Backus Hospital. Caesar was born October 3, 1926 in Preston, the son of the late Walter and Antonina (Mierzejewski) Lebuis. His parents came to the US from Poland and eventually settled on a dairy farm in Preston. He worked at Beit Brothers as a butcher and meat cutter during and after his high school years, graduating in 1944 from Norwich Free Academy. He served in the United States Army during the Occupation of Japan as a member of the 11th Army Airborne Division as a paratrooper, military policeman, Assistant Commander of the Guard, cook and demolition expert. During his military service, he married the late Irene (Kelly) August 4, 1946 at the Divine Providence Polish National Catholic Church. She passed away November 26, 2009. Caesar had worked as a General Supervisor of Maintenance and Construction/Project Engineer for Kaman Aerospace. Prior to that, he worked as a builder/general contractor building various properties around the area, cabinet maker and operated the County Dozer. He enjoyed working in his tree nursery, gardening and woodworking. Above all, he loved his family. A lifelong Preston resident, Caesar was extremely active in Preston activities. He was a founding member of the Poquetanuck Fire Department, served as the Preston Dog Warden and Constable for many years. He served as the Third Selectman of Preston as well as on the Planning and Zoning Commission and as Director of Preston Civil Defense. He is survived by his son Thomas J. Lebuis Sr. of Cleveland, GA, daughters Sandra Koozmitch and husband William and Karen Grandchamp and her husband Jeffery, all of Preston, brother Stanley J. Lebuis of Preston, sister Lucille Slaga of Preston, grandchildren Thomas J. Lebuis Jr. and Jason Lebuis and by his great granddaughter Kaitlee Lebuis. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son Michael Lebuis, brothers Marion and Victor Lebius, sister Genevieve Rozanski and daughter in law Rita Lebuis. Calling hours will be held at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave. in Norwich on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held at the Labenski Funeral Home on Thursday at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
