Not sure what to say?

I was just listening to some old Ben Folds Five and decided to look up Caleb. So shocked and saddened to learn of his passing. I remember as a sophomore at Jordan in the 90s when my history teacher, after seeing my BF5 shirt, proudly showed off a cassette of music that Caleb had made for him. Caleb was a Durham legend already but I had no idea of his contributions to downtown and the city as a whole. I am in awe and his memory will live on in the Bull City for a long time to come.

I never knew Caleb directly but grew up in Durham and remember riding the same bus with him in elementary school, then seeing him in at the Cat's Cradle over the years with his long hair, then in yet another installment of life, on the Durham neighborhood listserv. And then he married Jo! I am really sad to have learned of his passing, and also just so incredibly amazed to see all the phenomenal things he did with his life, and how many people that he positively impacted, some of us didn't...

I´m so sorry to hear of Caleb´s passing. He accomplished so much in his lifetime and touched so many. My heart goes out to his wife, family and friends. LeAnne Silver, Jordan High School

I was friends with Caleb in junior high and high school and was the bassist for the ledbetters as mentioned in the obituary. I had the honor of Caleb being a groomsman at my wedding. He was a dear friend and one of the smartest people I have ever met. He will be sorely missed.

I worked as a TA for the class he taught before he passed away. He was a kind-hearted professor who consistently greeted students with a smile and attentively listened to their concerns, showing them the same care and warmth as a father would. I gained valuable insights from him on the qualities that make a professor truly great. May he rest in peace.

Caleb influenced every aspect of my life, he was such an inspiration to me musically. Before him I never even cared who produced an album, but after I listened to Whatever and ever amen I understood that his role was one of most important parts of the music. Thank you for inspiring people and being one the greatest producers to ever have lived. I´m so sorry for your loss.

Caleb is a wonderful person and he will be sorely missed!

Although I did not get to know Professor Southern personally, I always enjoyed his lectures and coming to everyone one of his classes placed a smile on my face.
