Calvin Ramsey

Calvin Lafayette Ramsey, 89, resident of 224 Elliott Street, husband of Faye Ashley Ramsey, died October 11, 2015, at his home. Born November 14, 1925, in Chester, he was a son of the late Marion Russell Ramsey, Sr. and Gertrude Henderson Ramsey. He attended Greenwood High School. Mr. Ramsey was a US Navy Veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Breeman and later served in the US Army and the SC National Guard. He was a member of Laurel Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 66 years, are a son, Russell Ashley "Rusty" (Tara) Ramsey of Greenwood; a grandson, Sam Reagan Ramsey and a granddaughter, Caroline McCall Ramsey, both of Greenwood. He was preceded in death by a brother, Marion Russell Ramsey, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Baptist Church, with Rev. Bruce Lowe and Rev. Calvin Smith officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening and will be at the home on Elliott Street at all other times.
