Camilla Margarett (Crawford) Hammond, 72, passed away peacefully in her bed on November 5, 2013. Camilla resided in Long Beach for most of her life. She was born on December 29, 1940 and grew up in Westchester, CA. She graduated from Westchester High School in 1957. She retired from teaching in 2001. She cherished her sons and grandchildren, Kyle, Oliver, and Piper Hammond. She was an avid reader, loved movies as well as past and current popular reality TV shows. She also enjoyed taking cruises around the world and had a very fond love for cats. Not sure what to say?

I'm so sorry to (belatedly) hear of Camilla's passing. I taught with her for several years in Paramount at the middle school level. She was a great person and I'll never forget her. Again, my deepest sympathy to her family.

To the Hammond Clan, my heart goes out to all of you and prayers that you will always think of the fun and positive moments you had with your mom, grandmother and mother in law. I remember whenever I saw her she was always gracious to me and my family. My love goes out to you , Karol

Camilla was my best friend. I miss being able to talk to her. I taught kindergarten with her, and it was so much fun. The best teaching years for me. After retiring we got together every week. I would not have missed that. Thanks, Camilla for the good times we had.

Son Ric with family

Grandma Camilla, as she was known in our house, is credited for giving our children, Oliver and Piper, a love of books and reading. When she babysat in their younger years, she would always bring her Bag of Books. They would read and read and read together; it was rare if the TV was turned on while she was with them. She also introduced the kids to Trident gum, which is still one of their favorites because "Grandma Camilla says it's good for your teeth!" She will be missed.

Hugs and love to your family. Your mom was beautiful and I love that I can see her in her sons' faces.

Praying for strength, and peace of heart for The Hammond Boys @ this time of need. Randy Lowen

Although she was battling with a few health issues, I had hope she would overcome them this time, be able to get back to enjoying life and what she wanted to do. God had other plans though and decided it was time to stop fighting and be at peace. She's in a much better place now where she is with family and can watch over the rest still here on earth. You'll be missed! Xoxo
