Camille Gertrude, lovingly known as Titou,  was born in New Orleans to Camille Jeanne O’Connor & Harman Paul Agnew.  Her only sibling was the late Harman Charles Agnew (1926 - 1980).  Their home was at 38 Pelham Dr. in Metairie Club Gardens. Harman Agnew was a career U.S. Army officer, a native of St. Louis, MO. Camille's mother was a native of New Orleans, born and raised at 3804 St. Charles Ave.

Her childhood ended in 1940, with infection of Polio virus (Infantile Paralysis Syndrome). Initially infirmed for months at Colorado Springs,  she later embarked on a 2 1/2 year tour of the Children’s Hospital system. Camille spent most of the WW-II years (1941-1944) traveling to various rehabilitation facilities under the care of  “Sister Kenny”. Camille was treated with extensive hydro-therapy at  Warm Springs, GA,  Denver, CO, and Chicago, IL.

It was during this separation from family that she developed the adult beliefs, values and faith we would all come to know and admire so very much. Camille returned to her home in 1944, a young adult of 14 yrs.  It was through this odyssey she became an incredibly avid reader. Her love of reading would give her a fantastic freedom and adventure that many people never achieve by their own mobility. Her passion for reading brought her many new friends who came to know her by their role as librarians, supplying her books.

Although she lost to Polio the command of her legs and much of her personal mobility... the humanity she found was profound and amazing: Incredible personal resolve and will power, genuine compassion, a deep sense of charity and empathy.  Camille  was indeed most fortunate and she always shared her good fortune with all around her.

Camille attended Metairie Park Country Day School after the war and graduated with the class of 1949. Camille married her high school sweetheart “Jack” John Joseph Middleton in January of 1951.

Camille & Jack started their family in 1956 and had four children - Stephen Mark, Michael David, Harman McLellan, and Melissa Camille. Settling on the West bank, in Gretna, LA in 1960, Camille & Jack formed many wonderful & long lasting relationships with neighbors. Although born & raised in New Orleans, Camille was a 37 year resident in Gretna.

Camille survived her husband Jack who died in 1986. She resided in Kenner, LA with her daughter Melissa and son-in-law Kamel from 1992 - 2002. During this period, she re-discovered her faith in God and became a confirmed Catholic. She also was very active in her Parish community through "SESMA" and Senior Bingo.

Camille was blessed with 5 wonderful in-laws: Kamel Boughrara, and Ann, Patty, Linda & Lynn Middleton.

She was so very proud of her 7 adoring grandchildren:
Andrew & Brandon & Jolie Claire (deceased 1983) Boughrara
Trevor & Tricia Middleton; Michael & Ann's children
Jacob Matte & Joseph Middleton; Mark & Linda's sons.

Camille lived the last five years with her son Mark and daughter-in-law Linda in Gretna, in the same house where she and Jack had raised their own four children.

Camille was a devoted, attentive and loving wife, mother, and friend to all that knew her. Her devotion to her Catholic faith and her deep sense of charity were profound.

Not sure what to say?

22 was a good friend, I met her when I worked for her as a home health care provider, when she stayed with her daughter missy and kamel and family. We became friends and kept in touch via emails. I will really miss her and to the family she is the best. I learned a lot from her and she helped me find a new friend in Kathy.

22 u will be missed but, not forgotten.

We never had the chance to meet in person, but we did enjoy our daily Scrabble battles. She was a much better player than I could ever hope to be. She would get upset with me whenever I won. She liked it when I called her Toddles, my nickname for her. I do miss my online friend more than I should, I guess she was special to me and I am sure we will meet again one day, and maybe do battle for eternity. Walt.

Please accept our deepest sympathy. We have known Titou for thirty years, after meeting her through the MDA Whel-a-Thon. The past few years she has been a wonderful on-line friend. We enjoyyed her friendship and will miss her dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with Titou's whole family.

I met and enjoyed Titou through our church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. She unabashedly recruited me for the St. Elizabeth Seton Mature Adults (SESMA). I couldn't refuse and the rest is history, as they say. I love the group and I loved Titou. She will be missed. And, yes, she loved all of you, her family, so much and was so proud of you all.

Titow, you will be dearly missed, both by your loving family and the many friends you have made over the years with your sweet and caring ways.

I loved Titou! I admired her toughness and hope I only have half of what she displayed in her lifetime. What a great role model! She is missed, but continued to be loved and remembered fondly.
