CANDICE MARIE PORTER

San Diego has truly lost a fine person who has contributed so much to prevention activites. The fact that her youth group was instrumental in getting the first smoke-free beach in the country! What an accomplishment, and look at what has followed from that! She was a great person, always made me feel like she was so glad to see me, very warm and gracious. Even though I haven't seen her in recent years, now that I know she has gone, I feel a loss in my heart.

Candice will remain in my heart, she was a wonderful caring woman who was filled with elegance and warmth. Her contributions to making our community smoke-free were selfless and so very signficant. The world is a better place because Candice was in it.

I was shocked to read about Candice's death. I met her about 10 years ago when I was a counselor at Torrey Pines High School. We worked together on a committee to help prevent drug abuse with teens. I liked her immediately! (Maybe it was our common name!) I knew her as being one of the most caring people on the committee. She was truly interested in helping the teenagers in our district.
